VehicleID provides services to various automotive industries in Australia which deal with your personal information.

This policy describes how we collect, store, use and disclose your information in carrying on our business.

1. Who is collecting your information?

  • VehicleID Australia Pty Limited is a business owned ultimately by Trade Me Limited.

2. Security of your information.

​​

  • VehicleID holds and processes information at a data centre in Sydney, Australia. Our development team is based in Auckland, New Zealand, but our business’s system is entirely within Australia. Your information will only leave Australia if our team runs a report to test the system, or if our clients access the information from their New Zealand based call centres.

  • We use industry-standard security to protect your information.

3. What information is collected and stored?

  • If you are a customer of one of our clients, they can use the VehicleID service to access information about your vehicle for their specific purposes. We may receive some personal information from our clients and from other third parties who supply us with information in line with their terms and conditions.

  • We retain the information we collect in order to provide, develop and improve our services and for audit and backup purposes.

4. Information on motor vehicles.

​​

  • VehicleID facilitates access to the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver License Information Service (NEVDIS) which include the details of registered vehicles in Australia.

  • For example, if you seek a quote from an insurer that uses VehicleID’s service, your insurer can use the service to search, using your vehicle registration or VIN, for your vehicle’s details.

  • The vehicle information included is: year, make, model, colour, body, engine and transmission information, registration status, stolen and written-off vehicle status, and if there is any money owing on the vehicle.

5. Disclosure of your information

  • We will disclose your information in the course of performing the vehicle transactions described above to the parties to those transactions.

  • We use third party web analytics tools common across the internet (for example, we use Google Analytics).

  • These services use cookies and local storage to track users across the web. Other than placing a cookie on your browser, we do not provide any of your information to such third party services. Here is some information from Google about how Google Analytics safeguards your data.

  • Otherwise, we only disclose your information when required by law.
